Plea Bargaining and Court Clog

Justicesta Tistics

If plea bargaining were to be abolished nationwide, the immediate collapse of the court system would be inevitable. Due to the influx of cases needed to be determined by trial, the system would simply not be able to sustain itself. With our current number of courts, we would need to octuple the resources we put into the system to even have a chance at supporting it. Even by putting cases to a bench trial would require an exorbitant amount of extra resource consumption. The long-term consequence would be thousands more waiting in jail and rampant crime resulting from our crippled justice system.
